Short Street Cakes: Aunt Tissy's Italian Cream Cake

I had the pleasure of visiting Jodi Rhoden's bakery today and chatting with her a little about her work. Looking for the person to make your wedding cake, you wonder, if all these cakes taste great, what seperates one bakery from another? Jodi's is originally from Georgia, and the things that defines her bakery is a deep exploration of southern foodways. In fact, she has written a book on the topic, soon to be released by Lark Books, about southern cake ladies–their lives and recipes. I asked Jodi what her favorite cake flavor is, at the moment, she said dafodil, lemon. The cake featured in this post is Aunt Tissy's Italian Cream Cake (a buttermilk coconut cake with cream cheese icing and pecans). The cake recipe is actually sourced from Jodi's aunt.
